Kristi Herold, Rolston Miller and Family

Kristi Herold: Founder and Director
Rolston Miller: Co-Founder and Director

Kristi Herold started the SSC in the Spring of 1996. Her formal education came as a graduate of Queen's University's Commerce Faculty (1993).   Kristi's "real" education, however, was garnered in grass cutting businesses during high school and as a College Pro Painter franchisee during university.  It was here where she adopted her two main beliefs with respect to service-based organizations: deliver what you promise and take pride in what you do.  These are the guiding principles that have allowed SSC to get over 50 000 people active since 1996.

Kristi's passions are: her three children and pursuing an active lifestyle.  As a former provincial-level ski racer, Kristi has since channeled her competitive energies into Ultimate Frisbee.  Kristi has participated in SSC ultimate, team handball and indoor soccer.  She is still waiting for her call-up to SSC flag football.

Rolston Miller was the second full time person for SSC, joining his partner (and since wife) in the Fall of 1996 after competing as a semi-professional road cyclist in the United States for 3 years.  Rolston completed his education at Queen's University (Honours Arts 1992), and while he enjoyed his time in the classroom, it was the experience of playing on four OUA Championship varsity rugby teams that taught him the value of hard work and sacrifice for your teammates, not to mention the importance of a hand shake and a cold drink after a hard-fought game.

Rolston's passions are: his family, Ultimate Frisbee, hockey, cycling, snowboarding, history and music.

Rolston has participated in SSC ultimate, team handball, basketball, floor hockey, indoor soccer and curling.

Rob Davies: Stony Lake Tri Guy. Yep. That's right: no "e" in Stony!
Rob Davies:
Operations Director, Corporate Partner Liaison

Hailing from Peterborough, Rob is also a Queen's University graduate (Commerce 1998).  Rob came to Toronto right away, and while working for a somewhat spirit-crushing marketing consulting company, he discovered the physical and mental benefits of playing sports with the SSC.  The Wednesday night soccer dynamo known as "The Shaggers" began with Rob as a key offensive component and franchise cornerstone.

Rob is never happy with one win though, and this desire carries over to his work with SSC.  His motto of "there is always a better way" translates into an ever-improving league environment.

Rob's passions are: sports (soccer, hockey, running, caber tossing), friends and family, Reality TV (Apprentice, Survivor, Amazing Race, Evening News), long walks on the beach, romance novels, potpourri, freeing circus animals and Cat!

Rob has also participated in SSC floor hockey, basketball, flag football, turf soccer, beach volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee,  and the new All Sorts of Sports program.

Blythe Underys
Blythe Underys:
Office, Facility and Customer Service Manager

Blythe knows a lot of people.  Some of them even build houses out of hay.  Blythe graduated in 1998 from Lakehead University with an honours degrees in Outdoor Education and Geography.  After university, Blythe spent 3 seasons as an instructor with Outward Bound developing a passion for winter activities (especially if they include dogs!).  Blythe also managed a cookie & ice cream store at Mt. Tremblant for an 18-month period where she became a snob about cookies & ice cream and an expert in chocolate.

Blythe began her SSC experience first as a player, then as an Event Coordinator, before finally taking a full time position with our Admin Team.  Blythe brings a passionate "member's" point of view to every customer service issue she deals with, always going the extra mile when it comes to listening to people's concerns, complaints or praises.

Blythe's passions are: friends and family, dogs, the Buffalo Bills, sports, any fun activity that requires dressing up, knitting, forensic science, and yummy brunches.

Blythe has participated in SSC ultimate, floor hockey, soccer, basketball and curling.

Chris Loat: Snow Plate, Sudbury, where "the cooler" becomes "the warmer".
Chris Loat: Operations Manager and Discipline Officer

No one moves faster in lateral directions than Chris  Loat, a.k.a. "Scamper."  While studying history at University of Toronto, Scamper was heavily involved with the student intramural program serving as the  University College Men's Athletics Commissioner for 3 years.  Scamper was also a silver medalist with the men's varsity squash team at the 2000 OUA team championships.

Post U of T, Scamper followed the path of part-time SSC Event Coordinator to full time SSC Admin Team member.  Besides bringing a critical grammatical eye to the table (watch those dangling modifiers!), Scamper's efforts ensure that over 240 divisions of sports and 20 special events annually run smoothly.  Scamper personally reviews over 50,000 game results a year!

Scamper's passions are hockey, 24, Trivial Pursuit, South Park, crosswords, jumbles and sleeping.

Scamper has participated in SSC floor hockey, softball, ultimate, beach volleyball, court volleyball, soccer and curling.

Andrew Blakeley: swing batta!
Andrew Blakeley,
Special Events and Event Coordinator Manager

Andrew traveled to the thriving metropolis of Peterborough for his schooling, where he learned that a passion for sports tends to follow you wherever you go. While majoring in Cultural Studies and Creative Writing at Trent University, Andrew spent most of his time outside of the classroom participating in a variety of intramural sports, including Ultimate Frisbee, Softball, Ice Hockey, and Broomball.

After graduating from Trent he traveled for half a year before completing his education at George Brown College where he Studied Sport & Event Marketing. Andrew currently plays Ice Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee & Volleyball.

Jennifer Filippelli: classic foam finger
Jen Filippelli,
Office Manager and Evening League Facilitator

Jennifer is yet another Queen’s graduate to join the SSC team. When she is not learning about the way things “used to be” at Queens from the older alumni at SSC, she can be found bonding with accounting software. She studied economics and drama while at Queens and, yes, she is aware that is a weird combination.  While economics can be very dramatic, there is very little economics in drama.

Jen first discovered SSC when she and her friends formed the team with the fear inducing name “Team I Heart” in the ASOS league. After many winning seasons (and some non-winning, but she doesn’t like to speak of those), she now has a stunning collection of “Team I Heart” t-shirts that she cannot bear to part with. She has also played softball and participated in a few bonspiels with SSC.

Jennifer’s likes include winning, dancing, organizing elaborate events with her friends and sushi. Jennifer’s dislikes include losing, fake “heart” teams, traffic and Alex Trebek.

Jennifer hoped that everyday at SSC would be like her first day with the company -- the staff Christmas party.

Megan Davren
Megan Davren:
Assistant Facility Manager and Evening League Facilitator

Hamilton born and bread, Megan aspired at a young age to become an elevator operator. A sudden change of heart saw her attend the University of Western Ontario and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Kinesiology.  Megan played varsity lacrosse during her years at Western.  Not satisfied with just one degree, Megan continued on to Durham College where she graduated with a degree in Sports Administration and also played varsity soccer.  What a slacker.

She has recently worked for Hamilton Thunder Soccer Club, Mohawk College Campus Recreation and most recently coached soccer in Abu Dhabi, UAE for a year and a half (happy to be home!).

Megan's passion is soccer. She also enjoys junk food, reading, dancing, brain teasers and a good argument!  Her motto is : Good Food, Good Friends, Good Times.

She is currently a member of the co-ed soccer team The Heat (based out of Hamilton), and will be soon making an appearance in an SSC league near you!

Jen Krol
Jen Krol
League Associate

Though Jen spent her formative years out in the country surrounded by fields, she decided to venture to the big city to attend university at U of T. While there she discovered the joys of intramurals and was soon playing (or trying to play) many different sports. When attempting to play men’s rugby she often managed to get covered in a lot of mud, which resulted in her being very photogenic for pictures.

Ferguson the Dog. Nice doggy.
Ferguson the Dog:
Manager of Frisbee Chewing/Ball Eating and Sleeping

Ferguson, aka "Gus" or "Walking Carpet"  is quite fuzzy.  If you are visiting the SSC office, make sure to give him a pat on his bouffant-like hair-do.  Nice doggy.
